Whimsy & Wist Candles: Lighting the Way to a Plastic-Free Future

Embracing Plastic Free July with Whimsy & Wist Candles

Plastic Free July is an incredible movement that encourages individuals and businesses worldwide to reduce their plastic usage and find sustainable alternatives. Founded in 2011 by Rebecca Prince-Ruiz and a small team in Western Australia, the campaign has grown exponentially, now reaching millions of people in over 170 countries. The goal? To challenge us all to be part of the solution to plastic pollution by refusing single-use plastics throughout the month of July—and beyond.

At Whimsy & Wist Candles, we are proud to support Plastic Free July and are committed to reducing plastic and cutting down on waste in our candle business. Here’s how we’re making a difference:

Our Commitment to Plastic-Free Packaging

  1. Completely Plastic-Free Products: All our candles are packaged without any plastic. We use recycled paper and cardboard that can be recycled again after use. Our packaging choices reflect our dedication to sustainability and reducing our environmental footprint.

  2. Reusable Cotton Bags: Our candles come in FSC-certified organic cotton bags that are not only pretty but also reusable. Whether you use them for storage, gifting, or as travel pouches, these bags help reduce waste and encourage a more sustainable lifestyle.

  3. Minimal Packaging for Products: We avoid unnecessary packaging, especially for our reed diffusers. By not including boxes that are likely to be thrown away immediately, we cut down on waste and focus on what’s essential.

  4. Eco-Friendly Supplies: We ensure that the supplies we use for candle making are free from plastic and excess packaging. Our wax is ordered in bulk boxes, reducing the need for smaller, plastic-wrapped portions. Additionally, our fragrance oils are supplied in glass or aluminium bottles, both of which can be recycled once cleaned.

The Impact of Plastic Free July

Plastic Free July has gained traction over the years, transforming from a small initiative to a global phenomenon. The campaign has inspired significant changes in consumer behavior and corporate practices, leading to:

  • Increased Awareness: More people are becoming aware of the detrimental effects of plastic pollution and are taking steps to reduce their plastic consumption.
  • Innovative Solutions: Businesses are innovating to provide plastic-free alternatives, from packaging to products, making it easier for consumers to make sustainable choices.
  • Policy Changes: Governments and organisations are implementing policies and regulations to curb plastic usage and promote recycling.

Why It Matters

Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues we face today. Single-use plastics contribute to vast amounts of waste, polluting our oceans, harming wildlife, and impacting human health. By participating in Plastic Free July and adopting sustainable practices, we can collectively reduce our plastic footprint and create a cleaner, healthier planet.

Join Us in the Movement

We invite you to join us in supporting Plastic Free July. Here are a few tips to get started:

  • Refuse Single-Use Plastics: Opt for reusable bags, bottles, and containers instead of their single-use counterparts.
  • Choose Plastic-Free Products: Look for products with minimal or no plastic packaging. Support brands that prioritise sustainability.
  • Recycle and Reuse: Properly recycle plastics and find creative ways to reuse items to extend their life cycle.

At Whimsy & Wist Candles, we are dedicated to being part of the solution. By offering beautiful, high-quality candles with eco-friendly packaging, we hope to inspire others to make sustainable choices. Together, we can make a significant impact and move towards a plastic-free future.

Thank you for supporting our mission and for making conscious choices that benefit our planet. Happy Plastic Free July! 🌿🕯️
